Canada’s Self-Employed Lead to Unexpected Job Gain according to Bloomberg. Canada’s economy produced new jobs for the first time in six months in April as workers created positions for themselves. A net 35,900 people found work and the jobless rate stayed at 8 percent, the highest in 7 years, according to Statistics Canada.
Jonathan Basile, Credit Suisse Holdings Inc., voiced a concern that “where the jobs are being created makes me feel cautious in saying this is the true turn. Self-employed positions are more precarious and as yet companies are not hiring again.“ It also suggests more local competition.
